Source: Reuters New York City’s ban on religious worship services inside school buildings after hours was ruled constitutional on Thursday by a federal appeals court. In a 2-1 decision, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the New York City Board of Education’s regulation, created so the city would not be perceived as endorsing religious activity in a public forum, “was consistent with its constitutional duties.” The rule prohibits school buildings from being used for religious worship services or as houses of worship, but the city allows groups to use schools for non-religious activities.

Representatives of several Muslim communities from around Iowa gathered under the rotunda to educate and share information about Islam and its presence in Iowa. Muslims served food and mingled in the statehouse beginning at noon. There are an estimated 6,528 Muslims in Iowa, according to a 2010 estimate. The incident occurred last month; now Marcos Perez, the father’s child has hired lawyers to demand that the school stop “engaging in such religious discrimination” as stated in a letter to the school. A Tennessee branch of the REACH (Reach: Enrichment, Afterschool and Community Health) after school program is under fire for telling a child that he could not read his Bible while at the program. According to The BLAZE, the child said that REACH staff told him he could not read his Bible because it might cause the program to lose state funding.
